Doctor Barbara Heartwell can begin preforming surgeries at Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital immediately.

She had her privileges reinstated yesterday after a closed door hearing Wednesday night. Board Chair Egidio Sovran read the decision at a media conference yesterday. It states Heartwell can return to the operating room, but must have her oncology cases reviewed by another surgeon for a period of three months. She will have to have any oncology surgeries reviewed by another general surgeon for the next three months. She is still part of a hospital and provincial review, and is under investigation by the College of Physicians and Surgeons. She had her privileges revoked after it was found she preformed two mastectomy's on women who never had cancer.
