A hearing is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon about whether or not to reinstate the surgical privileges of Doctor Barbara Heartwell.

The doctor is accused of performing an unnecessary mastectomy last November. Heartwell originally voluntarily withdrew her privileges at Hotel-Dieu Grace hospital, but then changed her mind and was suspended. She now wants to be reinstated. Former chief of Staff Art Kidd says the hearing will discuss the Medical Advisory Committee's recommendation to the board of directors. The hearing gets underway at 5 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. The panel will make a decision as quickly as possible.
